James H. Royster Founder/ Funeral Service Assistant

Mr. James H. Royster began his career in funeral service in 1980 while also working for General Motors in New York. He has served in numerous capacities in New York and North Carolina.  

Upon retirement from General Motors he moved back to Henderson to work full time at Mary Davis-Royster's Funeral Home on Industry Drive. Mr. Royster is a master of all trades and has done many construction projects around the previous and current funeral home. 

He truly is a community person and is willing to do whatever he can to assist anyone in need.

He is married to Mrs. Mary Davis-Royster and is a member of Long Creek United Holy Church.

He is appreciative to the community and realizes that "the friendship of those we serve is the foundation of our progress."

Paul Crews, Jr. Director's Assistant

Paul O. Crews, Jr, has been a part of Davis-Royster Funeral Service, Inc. since 1995. At an early age he began assisting Mrs. Royster on services and helping around the funeral home.

Paul is a 2004 graduate of Northern Vance High School, where he enjoyed playing football and other sports. He later continued his education and attended Elizabeth City State University. In 2015 he graduated from Fayetteville Technical Commuity College with a Diploma of Funeral Service. He completed his Funeral Directors Apprenticeship in 2015 and is currently applying for his North Carolina Funeral Directors License.  

He is the father of four children an is a member of Shiloh Baptist Church of Henderson.

Robert L Wright, II Licensed Funeral Director/ Embalmer

Robert L. Wright, II, a Vance County native has been with Davis-Royster Funeral Service since 2012.

He attended Vance County Public Schools and graduated from Northern Vance High Scholl in 2006. He recieved his Assocviate of Science degree from Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service of Atlanta, GA and 2008. 

Robert is a Licensed in Funeral Directing, Embalming and Preneed for the State of North Carolina.

He is a member of Rowland Chapel Christian Church, where he serves as a church musician, choir director and assistant Sunday School Superintendant. You can hear him on "Sounds from Jordan" radio broadcast on Sunday mornings, WIZS AM 1450.

Robert has a passion for serving the community and strives to serve each family with "Dignity and Respect".

Etta M. Gill Receptionist

Mrs. Etta Mae Gill has been a receptionist/secretary with Davis-Royster Funeral Service, Inc. since 2004. She grew up in Henderson, North Carolina and joined Spring Street Missionary Baptist Church at an early age where she faithfully attends today.

She was married to the late Daniel Gill of Henderson. 

Mrs. Gill has a passion for serving the community and greets everyone with a smile. Her lifelong motto has been "Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last. ”
